“Daisy 1897-98”

Limited Edition Print

Daisy 1897-98” is an illustrative representation of an image of the PS Daisy found in the SA State Library archive.

The PS Daisy is a Paddle Steamer of the great Murray, built in 1986 as a hawking steamer. This imagery of her presents her original configuration as she delivers and sells produce alone the Murray river.

The Daisy took on many forms and many roles. Forever growing and adapting to the river’s needs. From a floating shop to a fishing steamer, and on again to be a travelling home. She laid her weary body to rest on the vast Murray riverbed in 1948.

Daisy Postcard

After working tirelessly in the depths of the industrial revolution she took her time to rest on the riverbed. Reviving her passion, her spirit, her connection with the age old rushing river.

For 53 years she rested. In 2001 she took her first breath anew. Was she ever truly lost?..

Paddle steamers were the workhorses of the Murray River. The industrial invention that opened up the South East side of rural Australia. With no train, nor road to rely on, river settlements worked and thrived due to the spirit of these great beasts.

Daisy Mug

The beauty of Daisy is not only in her power and might. Daisy, made from the mighty red gum, rested and coveted by the Murray river for half a century, is the spirit of the Australian riverland.

It is her spirit that connects man with the land, the river, the earth. That is her true beauty.
